Originally from New Jersey, Julia Boggio moved to the UK after bonding with a South African fellow over Atlas Shrugged in an NYC bar. The relationship lasted about as long as her Ayn Rand phase and Julia eventually met her husband, a Welshman named James.

In 2005, they married at a film-themed wedding. Their wedding invite was a Cinema Paradiso-style pastiche of all the kisses from their favourite movies. They then wowed their guests with a near-perfect (ahem) rendition of the dance from Dirty Dancing. Little did they know that this dance would change their lives.

Two years later, they popped the dance on YouTube to show some friends in the US. The next day, they were interviewed by the Metro newspaper and it exploded from there. After a slew of newspaper articles and press appearances around the world, they were invited onto The Oprah Winfrey Show, where Julia danced with Patrick Swayze (James also did The Lift with him).

At the time, Julia was working as a wedding photographer after leaving her previous career as an advertising copywriter.

She went on to be creative director of one of London’s top portrait photography studios, offering a luxury service to minor royalty, celebrities, and the Chelsea/Mayfair sets.

For three years, she wrote a regular column for Photo Pro magazine. She won Children’s Photographer of the Year with the SWPP two years in a row for her fine art work. Julia also became well known for her crazy Christmas cards, which were the subject of an article on the BBC website in 2020 (see samples below).

After 15 years as a professional photographer, Julia switched back to her first love: writing. Her early tastes in reading were eclectic, veering between Victoria Holt romance novels, comic books like ElfQuest, and the classics. All her young attempts at writing were fantasy-based, but, for her first series as an adult—The Photographers Trilogy—she decided to lean into her romantic side.

In summer 2022, Julia launched the podcast Two Lit Chicks. She chats with well-known writers about the books that changed their lives and guests have included Sarah Ferguson (the Duchess of York), Joanne Harris, Bonnie Garmus, Claire Fuller, Damian Barr, Jo Browning Wroe, Georgia Pritchett, Fonda Lee, and Kit de Waal (plus many more).

Julia now lives in Wimbledon with her husband and two children. And a cat! Let’s not forget the cat.
