We have the perfect gift for all new parents, a beautiful casting from Wrightson & Platt
We’ve found the perfect newborn gift. A creation by Wrightson & Platt is really the perfect present to welcome a new arrival and capture the precious first moments. The London based company even has casting artists across the UK, in New York, Hong Kong and Dubai so you can have a bespoke piece sculpted for you regardless of which corner of the globe you call home.
They are the world’s finest sculptors of baby hands and feet, cast from your own little work of art in bronze, silver, gold & glass. The options don’t stop with the materials, there really are endless options to create a beautifully personal piece from bespoke sculptures from castings to jewellery.
Julia recently had a commission made with the team (who came right to her home) to visit and cast some sweet little feet and speaks about her personal experience with the team,
“When I saw the miniature feet necklace from Wrightson & Platt, I knew that I had to have one of my new baby so I dropped a lot of hints to James. They sounded a lot like, “James, I want this. Please make it so.” The casting was fun. Lianne and I had to get creative with how we made it work. The only way to get the baby to stay still enough was to breastfeed him while she dipped his feet into the mixture. Plus I was trying to take pictures for posterity at the same time. Multitasking at its best.
Lianne took the moulds away to their studio to do the scans and create the casts. The finished product has become one of my most treasured possessions. The detail of his feet is especially impressive. The baby loves to play with the pendant when I am cuddling him – thankfully, it’s on a strong chain!
Due to the high quality of their work, I knew that I wanted to work with Wrightson & Platt professionally, too. They are such a lovely team. In fact, I took my daughter to the studio the other week to meet everybody and to get her hands cast as well. She was in awe as she saw her plaster hands coming out of the moulds. To her, it was magic.”
As you can see from the series of photographs below, the casting itself is a pretty quick and easy process. An experienced casting artist (Lou, Anna or Lianne if you are based in the UK) uses a product that is made from seaweed and is 100% organic so it’s safe for that delicate new skin.
The team then works their magic and depending on the materials used, it will take approximately between 3 and 5 months to produce your bespoke sculpture or piece of jewellery.
We adore the personalised charm pendant, as shown below, perfect little feet forever and certainly the perfect gift.
Every detail, every little fingerprint, each tiny toe, is perfectly captured – to create a unique little reminder of those closest to you. Better yet, a small hand-engraved inscription can be added to the smooth polished backs of the pieces.
