Newborn photography, in our Wimbledon studio or at home?

Back to blog

It’s often the first question we are asked by returning and enquiring parents looking to have portraits created of their newest arrival or hopefully, upcoming arrival (booking ahead is always best, of course!).

In Wimbledon, we are fortunate enough to have a beautiful studio space in Merton Abbey Mills (that little place where Liberty used to do their fabric dying back in the day!) and we are delighted to be able to offer these special photoshoots either at our studio or in the comfort of your home.

So, on location or in the studio?

In either location we are able to capture your little one at this brief moment in time, beautifully – it all comes down to personal preference. Although you may be certain you know what you prefer, there are some questions to ask yourself and things to consider that will help you decide what is best for you and your family or even change your already made-up-mind.

This would be the first place to start. If you have heaps of natural light in your home you may very well prefer to have one of our photographers come to your home. If your home is darker, we can arrange to have lighting at your shoot but it might be wise for you to consider a studio session where we have full control of the light & environment.

The easier the better

We aim for the experience to be as enjoyable and as easy as possible – as a new mum you have enough to worry about!

We are based in Wimbledon, accessible via the District Line if you are taking the tube & Southwest Trains as well as the Northern Line or, if you prefer to drive, it would usually be around a 45 min drive (with London traffic being inevitable).

If Wimbledon is a bit too far for you, then a location or home newborn shoot might be best for you.

Everyone attending should be considered as well. We love having both parents as well as any siblings or relatives join in the shoot so we would have you think about what would be better for everyone involved.

Props & shoot style

We always recommend having a look through our galleries to see what you prefer – props or no props. We style the shoot with your preferences in mind, so this would be some homework for you!

If you can’t get enough of all the props we have available in the studio, then we would say a studio session would be most suitable. We are able to bring some props (and certainly a variety of hats, blankets etc) to a home shoot, but there would be a wider selection at our Wimbledon studio.

Timing is everything

For any newborn shoot, the biggest factor will more than likely be the age of your baby.

We encourage families to get in touch so we can arrange the shoot to take place within the first 10 days of your little one’s arrival. We recommend calling to pencil in a date for the shoot as soon as possible.  Ideally we like to have shoots booked in a few months before the baby is born.

Once you’ve had your 20 week scan and you know everything is going well give us a call!

You can call or email the studio at anytime and Rebecca or myself on 020 7042 9777 or smile@boggiostudios and we will be happy to talk through all the details and answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you to start planning your shoot.
